Replacement Poem

  (Original)
Columbia the Gem –Gerald Stern
I know that body standing in the Low Library,
the right shoulder lower than the left one, the  lotion sea lotion-
  his hold is ended.
Now the mouths can slash away in memory
5   of his kisses and stupefying lies.
Now the old Reds can walk with a little spring
in and around the beloved sarcophagi.
Now the Puerto Ricans can work up another funny America
and the frightened Germans can open their heavy doors a little.
10 Now the River can soften its huge heart
and move, for the first time, almost like the others
  without silence.
       (Replacement)
What a World –Me
You recognize this grandma crouching in the ancient home,
the upper hip bothering the lower one, the cherry blossom/ mothball perfume-
her scent is lingering.
5   In the future rumors would dwindle away, all in reminiscence
of her exaggerated stories and her fabulous fabrications.
By then the old crowd of roommates will go off to bingo
night here and there as they go.
Here at the home there would be crying babies taking on
   10  grown  bodies,
    Benjamin Buttons, for our world.

My Favorite Poem

Absolutely Nothing –
(from Chobosky's Perks of Being a Wallflower)

Once on a yellow piece of paper with green lines
 he wrote a poem
And he called it 'Chops'
because that was the name of his dog
And that's what it was all about
And his teacher gave him an A
 and a gold star
And his mother hung it on the kitchen door
and read it to his aunts
That was the year Father Tracy
took all the kids to the zoo
And he let them sing on the bus
And his little sister was born
with tiny toenails and no hair
And his mother and father kissed alot
And the girl around the corner sent him a
Valentine signed with a row of X's
and he had to ask his father what the X's meant
And his father always tucked him in bed at night
And was always there to do it.

Once on a piece of white paper with blue lines
 he wrote a poem
And he called it 'Autumn'
because that was the name of the season
And that's what it was all about
And his teacher gave him an A
and asked him to write more clearly
And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door
 because of its new paint
And the kids told him
 that Father Tracy smoked cigars
And left butts on the pews
And sometimes they would burn holes
That was the year his sister got glasses
with thick lenses and black frames
And the girl around the corner laughed
when he asked her to go see Santa Claus
And the kids told him why
his mother and father kissed alot
And his father never tucked him in bed at night
And his father got mad
when he cried for him to do it.

Once on a paper torn from his notebook
 he wrote a poem
And he called it 'Innocence: A Question'
because that was the question about his girl
And that's what it was all about
And his professor gave him an A
 and a strange steady look
And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door
 because he never showed her
That was the year Father Tracy died
And he forgot how the end
 of the Apostle's Creed went
And he caught his sister
making out on the back porch
And his mother and father never kissed
 or even talked
And the girl around the corner
 wore too much makeup
That made him cough when he kissed her
 but he kissed her anyway
because that was the thing to do
And at 3am he tucked himself into bed
 his father snoring soundly.

That's why on the back of a brown paper bag
 he tried another poem
And he called it 'Absolutely Nothing'
Because that's what it was really all about
And he gave himself an A
and a slash on each damned wrist
And he hung it on the bathroom door
because this time he didn't think
 he could reach the kitchen.

Obstreperous Harangue

A new species. Orange and dark blue fur.
Found in the Amazon forest, a group of orangutans like no other.  It does not make sounds but communicates only through sign language because when born the babies screech and cry for three days until they strain out their vocal chords. “Permanent strep” the primatologists are calling it these days.

Pick A Scene

Here, are two people. One girl and one guy. The girl looks like she’s in distress and very concerned the way her head is tilted. The guy seems tired, exhausted as if he can’t go on any longer. He’s given it all he’s got. Both characters are sitting/ kneeling against a black car on the side of the road. Not the sidewalks. There doesn’t seem to be anyone there but them at the moment.
Liberty and J.T are outside by a car. J.T’s been shot. There’s blood on his hand, probably from touch where he’s been his. Liberty must’ve been around somehow, close by from a party maybe seeing as it’s not evening now and she’s where a dress.  When the incident happened and she rushed over to check his pulse. She’s calling out his name now because she can’t feel anything, she can’t feel his pulse.
This isn’t a happy event. There are six people in this image and almost everyone here has a unamused expression across their faces. Out of the six characters, only four are shot in a focused point of view. All three guys are wearing black suits. Out of the two main ones, the one to the far left with unruly brown hair looks shocked, maybe even a little disturbed. The man to the far right seems to be in pain, lost for words. The girl with brown hair, with her arms crossed is upset, clearly because she’s pouting and brow is a bit edged she has a certain attitude different than everyone else’s so far. Last but not least the blonde in this picture seems baffled, but also confused. She maybe even crying un comfortable with the situation.
Eli, Bianca, Becky, and Dallas are all attending their late friend’s, Adam, funeral. Their looking off to the church the crowd of people, specifically Adam’s family, mourning over his death. They miss Adam, he was too young and they can’t believe and don’t understand why he had to pass away. Eli probably has been to a church in forever, maybe even never and doesn’t know how to approach the crowd of people, friends, and family. Dallas is probably telling himself that he should be strong but realizes that he’s still here, standing on the side with the others. Bianca is probably annoyed that she couldn’t do anything about the situation and even more annoyed that she feels helpless. Becky just arrived to the scene probably confused, shocked and upset about the situation coming back from her vacation.

1.       I’ll wake up, stretch and grab my phone. Swipe and tap in four digits. Ugh, wow of course Lauren Marce would post a Flashback Friday this early in the morning and I don’t see why, seeing as she already posted a Throwback Thursday, a Wayback Wednesday, Once Upon a Time Tuesday and let’s not forget the ever so unneeded Memory Lane Mondays. Riddick.
2.       I roll out of bed and trudge over to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I haven’t spoken to Viv at all this week, I thought to myself as I made circular motions over front, top and bottom teeth.  I wonder if she’s still upset at my comment about her new tattoo. I swiped open my phone and tapped on the little blue and white birdie icon and scroll down to the I’ve missed portion. I mean really RT if I should get a tattoo on my boob, fave for my butt? What was she thinking?
3.       I went downstairs to the kitchen to make some breakfast, the house is really quiet now, then I realized my siblings are off at school and I have no school on Fridays. I pour some milk in a wide mug and pour some cereal into it, Cinnamon toast if anyone asked because, why wouldn’t they? I  tap open a green app with the letter V and start scrolling through a couple of 7 second videos until, two hours pass by then I realized how long I’d been on my phone.
4.       It was now 1 and I had to pick up my sister at 2. So as I charged my phone I hopped into the shower, so quickly that I slip on bar soap that someone always happens to leave in the tub before I get in. I wonder if there’s life alert for teens? There’s definitely has to be an app.  As I finished my shower and rushed to get dressed I unlocked my phone and tapped on Scout and tapped in Ruby’s school’s address. Soon enough it led me right where I needed it to.
5.       My sister the whole ride back home took videos of her and I. she’s so weird and shouting “Don’t Snap and DRIIIIIIVVEE!” She snapped so many videos; I had 286 seconds on my story. One of my pet peeves that everyone knows and here I have my sister framing me practically and doing it ! Who’s going to sit there and watched a 15 year old with a booger in the corner of her nose taking 286 seconds worth of car footage? No one that’s who. To make it worse she put up her screenname for my friends to follow, what made it even worse is that people actually did.
6.       Being back home now, never really feeling as I left, signed onto my blog and reblogged and posted a couple of pictures for what seemed to be an hour. Tumblr has a way of making the laziest person in the world motivated and watching and reblogging all of these fitness … things. Abs, arms, squats, foods. I feel like the next Michelle. I love the internet and blessed with the social media. It’s like a network without having to utter a word, not unless you’re talking to Siri that is.
7.       Speaking of uttering words, that reminds me that I have 3 seasons left of Gossip Girl and it’s time for me to get ready for bed, so with that I change my clothes and tell everyone goodnight, turn off the light and head to bed. For a few minutes it was relaxing closing my eyes then I turned over to the sighed tapped my screen and a bright light flashed at me I tap in four digits lower the brightness and tap the red app.
“Gossip Girl here, your one and only source of the …” the show starts playing. Goodnight.

Sundays

It was a Sunday—not a day but rather a gap between two other days.
Saturday and Monday. Many people could say that they’re excited for the weekend, it being Friday to Saturday, but from a studious student’s perspective, many have school on Fridays. Meaning that that most would agree that the weekend is really Saturday and Sunday. You’d be excited as well after going through a weeks’ worth of studying, testing and writing a weekend is just what you need. But for me I go to school on Saturdays as well so really my weekend is a Sunday. That dreaded Sunday. Sunday to many, may mean church Sundays, of Sunday Funday with the family. Little do they know that Sunday is the “but” of a sentence or saying  for when things are going to go downhill or take a turn for the unexpected, because after Sunday is Monday. Monday means back to school, back to work, back to testing and studying. So when does one really get to relax? You don’t not until there is an unexpected snow day or planned vacation or the end of the world – which by then it’ll awesome that I won’t be worrying about my Anatomy and Physiology exam but I will worrying over my life and my dog. Who will feed him?
Mondays also mean Jeremy. Jeremy with allergies Jeremy. Jeremy from Biology who doesn’t believe in using deodorants Jeremy. Just “good ol’ soap and water” Jeremy. Clumsy Jeremy, who tripped and spilled Benedict’s reagent all over my lab coat and my new sneakers. That’s right I’m in for another week of school, work, studying, overtime and Jeremy.

I Believed I Could Flyyy

As a child, I didn't grow up with many friends – at all, but I did grow with many ideas and many ambitions. I used to draw pictures of birds and butterflies. Anything with wings. I envied them because they could get away from their nests and move on to their next destination. I still don’t remember how, or even why this fascination related to a parachute, but every year when spring began I would grab the lightest blanket from my mother’s closet, find high ground, close my eyes and jump. In hopes of wind picking up from underneath me and the blanket and taking us somewhere far away. One of the last times I ever tried this attempt was the 6th grade. I woke up early as any trouble maker could and made my way to the backyard. I adjusted my pads and helmet and placed a box of bandages on the side of the wooden steps. I reached for the fence and hopped on, balancing my way over to the nearest tree and climbed up the closet branch. I tied the two ends of each side of the blanket to my arms, opened my arms out wide, letting wind pick up, closed my eyes, and then jumped. There was an amazing breeze came beneath me and I felt like I was soaring, like I could do anything then I placed my hands down then opened my eyes but feet wouldn't reach the ground, they couldn't because I was stuck of the tree branch. Mission to fly accomplished, mission to land – not so much.

Anne & Rebekah

Anne flops herself on Rebekah’s bed. “I’m hungry”, she says with a long sigh. Rebekah responds by nodding her head towards the kitchen. “Taco bell and Chinese on the counter”, she says. “But I’ve been doing so well, you know I can’t eat any of that junk”, she retorts pouting. Rebekah scoffs and grabs her keys.  “Fine”, she says in defeat, rolling her eyes. “We’ll go to Panera, then stop by the Farmer’s Market.” “And the Sister of the Year Award goes to…” Anne announces blissfully, as she follows Rebekah out the door.
The End =)

Zoom in, Zoom Out

Scene I >

The night was a rested well and the atmosphere was cool, a breeze, calm. You turn on your side to face the window, waiting patiently for a beam of light to slowly peak into the room and to feel the warmth on your face and –

“GET UP! GET UP! CALL MOM!! CALL MOM “

You jump out of bed in a panic, look over to the clock 5:57 am. Your eyes are foggy and your head is spinning, as you look over to your closet. You reach over to the down and swiftly turn on the light. You try to focus your eyes to your sister but you see red dots on the floor, you see various colors and dots. You take a seat on the bed and slowly look over to the closet.

“What the HELL STORME!”

“.. you needa get mom”, her voice was cold, lost and frightened.

Your heart was pounding so hard that you didn't recognized the silent sound of your surroundings. A distant whimper, crying. As you get your focus your sight, you turn your head over to you see your sister’s back faced to you and behind the closet door you see a trail, a trail of blood right to what seems to have been your brother, but half his face was covered with blood. Bloody floor. Bloody hands. Bloody face. Bloody brother.

“Where’s the dog?”

No, not me the rain
I’m not rain. I am wet, and cold. I’m not the fries but I am the girl. The hungry girl, who left her mother’s food at home to walk 2 miles in the rain to get fries, but not just any fries. McDonald’s fries. Happy fries. On the dollar menu. Sizzling and hot in Long Island.
